The state has levied fines totaling almost $150,000 to two construction companies for repeated violations of employees not using fall protection systems while working on buildings in Salem and Woodburn.

Construction workers are required to wear fall protection, such as a personal fall system, if they are working more than 6 feet in the air.

According to Oregon OSHA, Iron Head Roofing, which is based in Corvallis, was fined $78,000.

An inspector found four of Iron Head’s six employees working on the roof of a house in Salem weren’t wearing fall protection.

It was the fifth incident of the same violation for Iron Head Roofing since May 2019, according to OSHA.

JMJ Construction, of Canby, was fined $66,900, its fourth violation of the same type since February 2020.

At a house in Woodburn, a JMJ employee was installing siding without wearing protection, according to OSHA.

The violations for JMJ were $58,500 for the employee not wearing fall protection, $4,500 for a ladder not extending 3 feet above the upper landing and $3,900 for no guardrails on scaffolding.

The fines are proposed penalties and could be reduced if the businesses appeal.
