Convocation Organized By Construction Skill Development Council Of India

Gurugram: Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI), a non-profit organization operated under the aegis of National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), National Skill Development Council (NSDC) and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MOSDE) has organized a convocation and felicitation ceremony on the occasion of ‘Vishwakarma Day’. CSDCI learns the skill(s) required for getting employment among the youth. This helps them to get employment, which forms a sustainable economic activity in the country.

Shri Sanjay Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Loomba, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Civil Aviation, Shri R Ganesan, Major Corporate Centre, Larsen & Toubro, Shri Sabyasachi Das Larsen & Toubro, were also present on the occasion. Ms. Pangkhuri Borgohain, General Manager-National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Chief Executive Officer, Edu Tech Company graced the event. In this event around 50 ‘Kaushal Sainiks’ of Vishwakarma Devta i.e. construction workers, craftsmen of today’s construction sites were awarded ‘Certificates’ by CSDCI for several job roles.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sanjay Kumar said that if India is to become a ‘$5 trillion economy’, it is imperative to address the skill requirements of construction workers, as construction is the second largest contributor to the country’s GDP. It is a big industry. He also mentioned that we should make efforts that ensure the following:

• A dignified and good life for all construction workers

• Provided accommodation and safe work at construction sites

• Timely payment of wages and other benefits to the workers should be made available to them.

• Create a workforce that is recognized worldwide

At the ceremony, several new launches and agreements were signed, which are as follows:

1. Testimonial awareness ‘Audio-Video’ series of 5 episodes of ‘Kaushal Se Safal’ launched to enhance the importance of skills in about a dozen Indian languages.

2. Use ‘Virtual Reality’ technology to create learning modules covering topics such as Formwork & Shuttering, Reinforcement Works, Staging & Scaffolding, Concreting and Mason Category.

3. Preparation of in-house ‘research report’ on demand, supply and its gaps including mapping of ‘academic clusters’ associated with the construction industry.

4. Prepare a detailed report on ‘International Manpower Requirement’ for selection of skills as per global benchmark to provide overseas employment opportunities to skilled workers.

5. CSDCI as a ‘Super Incubator’ to support innovations that work to enable ‘Scaling and Speeding up’ skill development initiatives to be exemplary, scalable and deliverable.

6. Agreements signed with Larsen & Toubro to develop a roadmap for safety, quality and productivity standards for different ‘jobs’.

7. ‘MoU’ with EduTech of Larsen & Toubro as ‘Knowledge Partner’, specifically targeting higher levels of education.
