Two men remain in hospital after being injured in a scaffolding collapse on a town hall in West London yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, May 11). Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident in King Street, Hammersmith at around 5.30pm.

Officers, paramedics and fire crews arrived to find two men with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hurt when scaffolding collapsed on the site. They were both been rushed to hospital, where they remain. However in an update from the Met Police this morning (Thursday, May 12), their injuries have now been assessed as non life threatening.

Dozens of emergency vehicles were seen descending on the scene of the serious incident. A spokesperson for the Met told MyLondon today: "At 5.41pm on Wednesday, May 11 police were alerted to an incident at a construction site in King Street, W6. Officers attended to assist the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.

"Two men were taken to a central London hospital where they remain. Their injuries have been assessed as non-life threatening. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed."

A spokesperson for LAS said: “We were called at 17.39 today (11 May) to reports of an incident on King Street, Hammersmith. We sent a number of resources to the scene, including our Hazardous Area Response Team, ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We treated two patients at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

New pictures show the building site in which a scaffolding collapse hospitalised two men.

The road was closed last night but appears to be clear now. Emergency services are on the scene investigating but journeys should not be disrupted.

Work appears to continue, though it is not confirmed whether building has been halted in the wake of the incident. People are on site in construction clothing.

Last night, emergency services attended. There were two fire engines, a turntable ladder and a fire rescue unit on the scene. Pictures show a much quieter aftermath today.

Police officers are on the scene as investigations continue in Hammersmith. The construction site is located on King Street.

Radomir Grkovic, who lives opposite Hammersmith Town Hall, said: “I was in the flat. I just heard banging and it just shook. It was like an earthquake.

"It shook twice. It shook and then a couple of seconds later it shook again. I looked through the window and I couldn’t see anything. All I know is that something fell.”

A2Dominion is Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s development partner on the housing regeneration scheme adjacent to the Town Hall where the incident took place.

A spokesperson for A2Dominion said: “We are aware of an incident that occurred at the Town Hall site earlier this evening. Our thoughts and best wishes are with all those involved, particularly the two men who have been injured. Our immediate priority is supporting Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the emergency services with their ongoing investigations.”

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade (LFB) said: "Firefighters were called to assist London Ambulance Service crews after scaffolding on a building on King Street in Hammersmith collapsed. Two men were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

"The Brigade was called at 1742 and the incident was over for firefighters by 1832. Two fire engines from Hammersmith Fire Station, a turntable ladder from Paddington Fire Station and a fire rescue unit from Chelsea Fire Station attended the scene."

Erick Dos Santos was working across the road when the incident occurred.

He said: “At around 5.30pm it was a normal working day really. These guys finish at around 6pm. We had the door open.

"We heard a massive banging noise which sounded like something had fallen from quite a high distance. I didn’t see it but around 10 minutes later at around 5.45pm we started to see police cars arriving, the fire brigade and emergency services as well.”

MyLondon reporter Jacob Phillips is at the scene. Police officers are still outside Hammersmith Town Hall in the aftermath of the incident. Enquiries are ongoing.

Officers have confirmed that the two men were taken to hospital where their injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "At 17:41hrs on Wednesday, 11 May police were alerted to an incident at a construction site in King Street, W6. Officers attended to assist the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.

"Two men were taken to a central London hospital where they remain. Their injuries have been assessed as non-life threatening.

"The Health and Safety Executive has been informed."

Emergency services are still on scene in Hammersmith following a scaffolding collapse.

At around 5.45pm emrgency services were called to Kings Street, West London, where two men had been injured on the construction site.

They suffered possibly life-threatening injuries and are being treated in hospital.

Enquiries are ongoing and emergency services remain on scene where the new Hammersmith Civic Campus is being built.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have confirmed that the two men who suffered potentially life-threatening injuries were working on the new Civic Campus build.

They have said that they are not currently in control of the building work and wished the two men their best wishes.

The statemant said: "We are sorry to report there has been an accident on the Civic Campus construction site. The site is currently not under H&F’s control (it is managed and operated by the construction company) so it is hard to glean exact information.

"We understand there are currently two injuries. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are on the scene. Road closures are in place along King Street.

"Our thoughts are with those injured, their colleagues, friends and family. Further updates to follow."

The London Air Ambulance landed in a nearby park to the construction site incident on Kings Street.

Following the collapse of a scaffolding structure the Air Ambulance landed in Furnival Gardens, Hammersmith, this evening (May 11).
