Bringing children into this world is a full and big responsibility. Regardless of their age we need to protect them from the crazy world we now live in.

It is very important to teach them about safety, starting at a very young age and continuing throughout their lives.

It may be difficult at times, especially at a young age, to get them to understand because they are innocent and do not realize the dangers that exist.

Most people are very nice, but then there are a few that are not and can be a negative influence on your child. Therefore we must teach them to avoid and be careful whom they become friends with and associate with … keeping away from ones that are questionable. We must instruct our child to feel free to talk to us and report any concerns that they may have without being afraid.

As parents and guardians we need to check and be aware of who they are associating with, playing with and even texting with.

Who would ever have thought that we would be instructing our children how to react if there is a person intruding on their school to cause harm. They must also be advised on how to protect themselves and to be careful even walking to and from school — accepting nothing offered by any stranger.

It is important that we talk to our children and get their attention without scarring them, but it is important that they realize the dangers that lie out there.

I even instructed my grandchildren to avoid drinking from their friends’ bottles or even share their drinks with others.

It is also important to monitor the television programs that they may be watching including the 100% negative news and shootings taking place that possible puts fear into your child.

It is important the we install a positive attitude in our children always stressing safety and doing and living without fear.

Roll out thin on floured board, cut and sprinkle coconut, colored sugar, or nuts on top and lay on well-buttered tin.
