Two months of scaffolding rentals for the interior courthouse mural and painting restoration is going to cost Jasper County more than $63,000.

The board of supervisors on May 3 voted 2-0 to approve the rentals, which will be provided by All-American Scaffold. Each month the county will be charged more than $31,588. Scaffolding will be constructed inside the courthouse to repair the peeling and damaged paintings on the dome.

Jasper County Maintenance Director Adam Sparks said the painting contractor expects the project will only take two months to complete. The painting contractor is going to be at the courthouse May 10 to walk through the facility Sparks said. By then Sparks thinks he will get a start date on the restoration.

“But as of right now it’s kind of early June, first week (or) second week of June is when I expect to see them on site,” Sparks said. “Once we figure that out we’ll call the scaffold guys and we’ll have them here, you know, a day or two ahead of that time so everything’s ready to go by the time they get here.”
